Southern Oregon’s friendly, coastal town of Bandon is situated at the mouth of the Coquille River, in Coos County. Bandon’s population numbers around 3,000. The climate is temperate, ranging from January lows of approximately 50° to summertime highs in the mid to upper 60’s. Summer low tides reveal an abundance of intertidal life, just steps from lodging.  Winter storm watching is unparalleled.

 

Historically, the seaport was known for its fishing and timber opportunities.  Bandon’s founder, George Bennett, arrived in 1873.  The town was incorporated in 1891. Cranberries, planted in 1885, remain an important contributor to Bandon’s social and economic prosperity.  Seasonal festivals include The Cranberry Festival.

 

Bandon boasts abundant recreational and cultural opportunities. Visitors are welcome to tour a cranberry farm, come inside the historic Coquille Light House, golf at 3 public courses, ride a horse on the beach, fish, fly a kite, visit the museum, whale watch, attend the new community theater, walk beautiful public beaches or simply shop in the colorful Old Town shops and galleries. Additionally, the local library schedules activities throughout the year. Community activities include beach cleanups and a fund-raising beach walk.

 

Bring your windbreaker. Afternoon winds can be nippy year-round.  Bring your dog. The low-bank, sandy beaches are “pup-friendly”. Many proprietors in Old Town, as wells as area restaurants and local lodgings, welcome dogs. Bring your camera.  Bandon is picturesque.  Moreover, bring your smile!  The Chamber of Commerce admits to “perhaps one grump” living in Bandon. During our wonderful stay in Bandon, we didn’t encounter that person.

From Eugene take I-5 south towards Roseburg (30.2 mi.)

 

From I-5 South Merge Right onto OR-38 / Umpqua Hwy via Exit

162 towards Drain / Elkton (56.7 mi.)

 

Continue on OR-38 through Drain & Elkton to Reedsport

 

From Reedsport turn Left at the stop light onto US-101 South

 

Continue on US-101 South through Winchester Bay, through North Bend, and through Coos Bay (50.4 mi.)

 

After approximately 2:50 minutes you will arrive in Bandon Oregon
